Leather

Finest English handmade belts crafted from Oak Bark tanned bridle leather butts, supplied by J. & F.J. Baker & Co. Ltd of Colyton, Devon. Unique in its appearance, with a wonderful aroma, using an age-old process dating back to Roman Times. Oak Bark tanning requires a period of between twelve and twenty-four months to produce. This strong supple leather aimed at approximately 5mm substance, has a natural varied colour aniline finish, allowing the grain and nature of the skin to show through, maturing with daily use. Substance, shade and natural characteristic variances, such as growth marks, scars, flesh veins and blemishes etc. may be included, which are not considered defects, but an indicator of fine leather.

Using age-old machinery, no two Butts or batches are the same, as each hide supplied is bespoke, hand finished, traditional work of art. Every belt is therefore unique in identity. Equestrian leather is coloured along with other procedures at the tannery during the currying process which determines the resilience required. Naturally therefore, colour may migrate onto clothing under certain circumstances.

Founded,1900 in England, J & E Sedgewick & Co. Ltd is considered the world’s premier bridle and saddlery leather tannery. Producing pit tanned, hand finished durable leather with smooth open grain and superb tensile strength. Buck Belt Wallets and Card Sheaths are handmade from 2.5mm natural full grain leather, hand oiled and sealed to order in my workshop. Resulting shade variances are possible due to natural grain density, maturing over time into deep rich tan. This beautiful full grain leather will naturally mould and become supple with use assuming individual identity.

Pictures rendered also have colour variance, although camera tolerance is as accurate as possible.

buckleather - belt measurement guide

Buck Belts are made with a standard six-hole spacing at one inch (25mm) apart, with the waist size at hole three from the buckle. Upon request waist measurement can be centred over five holes, also the length of the tail can be adjusted. Waist sizes up to 52” are sometimes possible, please enquire.

BELT SIZING GUIDE

The best way to ascertain the measurement for a leather belt is to run a tape measure snugly around the waist, under clothing, directly to your body in the waistband location. Upon making, allowances are given to ensure a correct fit. It is therefore essential that the measurement provided is accurate to form a working base. To verify this measurement, as the preferred method, using a similar current belt laid out flat, accurately measure in inches, from the fold over at the buckle to your most used hole, ascertaining waist measurement. This measurement will be transposed to determine your new belt.
